Ali İhsan Ergin Kurttepe, who was sentenced to life imprisonment twice and whose sentence was upheld by the Court of Cassation, for setting fire to the forest in 5 different locations in Adana on the instructions of the terrorist organization PKK, had his two cases merged regarding breaking the security camera in his cell and setting his pillow and blanket on fire. Kurttepe, who faces a prison sentence of 2 to 8 years, said, "I set the pillow and blanket on fire with a lighter when my cell was not changed."

A NEW CASE WAS OPENED AGAINST HIM

Upon the notification of the prison officials, a case was filed against Kurttepe at the Adana 14th Criminal Court of First Instance for "damaging public property" and a prison sentence of 1 to 4 years was requested.

HE COULDN'T STAY STILL

After breaking the camera in his cell, Kurttepe set fire to his pillow and blanket on June 16, 2023. As a result of this action, a second case was opened against Kurttepe at the Adana 38th Criminal Court of First Instance for "damaging public property" and a prison sentence of 1 to 4 years was requested. The two case files were merged at the Adana 14th Criminal Court of First Instance.

"I WANT TO PAY THE INSTITUTION'S 358 LIRA DAMAGE"

The reason why Kurttepe set fire to his pillow and blanket in his cell has also been revealed. In his statement, Kurttepe stated that he requested a change of cell on the incident date at Adana No. 1 Type Closed Prison where he was staying and said, "When my cell was not changed, I set the pillow and blanket given to me on fire with a lighter. I want to pay the institution's 358 lira damage."

"I COULDN'T GET ALONG WITH OTHER INMATES"

In his statement, Kurttepe explained why he broke the security camera in his cell, saying, "I couldn't get along with the other inmates in the cell. That's why I requested a change of my cell from the prison administration. But they didn't change it, so I damaged the camera in my cell by hitting it with my hand due to the psychological breakdown I experienced. Then, when my cell was not changed, I set the pillow and blanket on fire with a lighter."
