A 53-year-old woman living in the Tarsus district of Mersin has been struggling with elephantiasis for 35 years. With recent treatments, her leg's weight has decreased from 100 kilograms to 50 kilograms, and she is seeking support.
Cennet Karabacak, a 53-year-old married mother of five living in the İnköy neighborhood of the district, has been fighting the disease since she was 19 years old. After years of trying to get treatment, Karabacak recently went to a private health center in Istanbul.
HER LEG WEIGHT DROPPED FROM 100 KILOGRAMS TO 50 KILOGRAMS
With a two-month treatment there, Karabacak's weight decreased from 205 kilograms to 145 kilograms, and the weight of her leg, which was 100 kilograms, also dropped to 50 kilograms. The long duration and high cost of her treatment have put the family in a difficult situation.
HER TREATMENT HAS NEARLY COME TO A HALT
Due to financial difficulties, Cennet Karabacak's treatment has nearly come to a halt. The family tried to find a solution by selling one of their lands in the village, but the income generated was not enough to cover the treatment expenses.
In a difficult situation, Cennet Karabacak said, "I have been suffering from elephantiasis for 35 years. I couldn't find treatment in Mersin and Tarsus. I am receiving treatment at a private hospital in Istanbul," and she requested support.
Karabacak noted that with financial support, her treatment could be completed, and she hopes to walk again after many years.
