The Board of Directors of the Turkish Football Federation decided in its meeting to appoint Gökhan Gönül as the head coach of the U21 National Team.

WORE THE A NATIONAL TEAM JERSEY 66 TIMES

Gönül, who wore the A National Team jersey 66 times, was also part of our Crescent-Stars team that competed in the 2016 European Championship finals. Starting his football career at Bursa Yolspor, Gökhan Gönül played professionally for Gençlerbirliği, Gençlerbirliği ASAŞ, Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞ, Fenerbahçe, Beşiktaş, and Çaykur Rizespor, and he is still among the players with the most matches played in the history of the Süper Lig.

FOOTBALL CAREER

In his playing career, Gönül played in 76 matches in European competitions, winning the Süper Lig twice, the Turkish Cup twice, and the Super Cup three times with Fenerbahçe. He also won the Süper Lig championship once with Beşiktaş.

HE WAS WORKING AS AN ASSISTANT COACH

The 39-year-old coach had been serving as an assistant coach for the U21 National Team since March of this year after ending his active playing career.
