The suspect in the murder of a mother killed in front of her baby in Florida was captured 3.5 years later thanks to a TikTok video.
In the murder committed on July 31, 2021, in the state of Florida, 27-year-old Joana Peca was shot multiple times in the face while holding her baby and with her 4-year-old son in the back seat. Her 41-year-old ex-boyfriend, Benjamin 'Bambi' Robert Williams, who fled after the murder, was captured in Mexico thanks to a video shared on social media.
According to a statement from the St. Petersburg Police Department, Williams called Peca to Woodlawn Memory Gardens cemetery under the pretense of wanting to see her baby. The two children in the vehicle at the time escaped unharmed.
A news video shared by Jasmeen Alexander, who has 2.8 million followers on TikTok, led to the suspect's capture. A person who saw the video shared 10 days after the murder recognized Williams in Mexico and reported the situation to the U.S. Embassy. The suspect was captured in Mexico City on November 30.
Eleni Peca, after the capture of her daughter's killer, said, "Instead of choosing my daughter's wedding dress, I had to choose her coffin. Justice was served three years and three months later. My Christmas gift came early this year."
St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway stated, "We have captured a dangerous criminal who posed a threat to the community. Nothing can bring back a lost life, but at least justice has been served."
Williams, who was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and two counts of child abuse, is currently held in the Pinellas County Jail. No bail has been granted for the suspect.
