Glynn Ray Simmons, who was found innocent after serving 48 years in prison in the United States, won a compensation of $7.15 million as a result of his counter lawsuit. According to the National Registry of Exonerations, Simmons became the person who spent the longest time in prison among all those who were exonerated.

After serving 48 years in prison in the state of Oklahoma, Glynn Ray Simmons, who was found innocent, won a compensation of $7.15 million through a counter lawsuit.

HE BECAME THE LONGEST-SERVING INNOCENT PERSON AMONG ALL EXONERATED INDIVIDUALS

Glynn Ray Simmons, who was convicted of killing cashier Carolyn Rogers during a robbery in the United States in 1974 and initially sentenced to death, later receiving a life sentence, won compensation.

After a judge overturned his sentence, Simmons, who was released in July 2023 at the age of 71, filed a counter lawsuit claiming that the police had tampered with reports and the prosecution had withheld evidence during the trial, and won $7.15 million in compensation.

In a statement, lawyer Elizabeth Wang said, "Mr. Simmons spent a tragic period in prison for a crime he did not commit. Although he can never get that time back, the settlement reached with Edmond will allow him to move forward on his path."

Simmons, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1977 following the Supreme Court's decision on the death penalty, became the longest-serving person among all individuals recorded in the National Registry of Exonerations.
