11 people were injured as a result of the malfunctioning escalator moving in the opposite direction in Izmir Metro. Health teams dispatched to the scene transported the injured to hospitals for control purposes.

CITIZENS LOST THEIR BALANCE AND FELL

The escalator, which provides exit from Konak district's Üçyol Metro Station, suddenly started moving in the opposite direction for reasons yet to be determined while passengers were on it. 11 people were slightly injured as they lost their balance and fell on the escalator moving in the opposite direction.

Those who witnessed the incident immediately called for help from health teams to assist the injured. Health teams dispatched to the scene transported the victims to nearby hospitals for control purposes.

"MAINTENANCE WAS DONE 1 DAY BEFORE THE MALFUNCTION"

In a statement made by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, it was stated that the service and maintenance of the escalators at Üçyol Metro Station were carried out on June 30, one day before the malfunction occurred, and were completed at 17.00 according to the records. Metro Inc. technical teams and the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers Izmir Branch of TMMOB are working together to determine the cause of the malfunction, and a simultaneous legal investigation has also been initiated.
