On November 27, armed opposition groups that took action in Syria quickly captured the country's critical cities. Most recently, the opposition took control of the capital, Damascus, from the regime and assumed power in the country. The ousted leader Bashar al-Assad fled to Moscow, the capital of Russia, with his family. RUSSIA DID NOT WANT ASSAD'S END TO BE LIKE GADDAFI'SAccording to a report in Bloomberg, Russia orchestrated a cinematic operation to evacuate Assad to Moscow. Not wanting to see a repeat of the lynching and killing of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 in Syria, Russia meticulously planned every detail of the escape operation. Convincing Assad that the war could be lost, Russia offered the ousted leader a safe exit on the condition that he immediately leave Damascus with his family. THE ESCAPE WAS PLANNED BY RUSSIAN INTELLIGENCEAssad's escape was organized by Russian intelligence officials. The plane carrying Assad took off from Russia's airbase in Syria. To avoid detection, the plane turned off its transponder. While ensuring the safety of the aircraft, the secrecy of the operation was prioritized.
