Former Ülkü Ocakları President and Hacettepe University Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan Ateş was killed in a gun attack on December 30, 2022, in the Çukurambar neighborhood of the Çankaya district in Ankara. The trial of a total of 22 defendants, 12 of whom are in custody, regarding Ateş's murder is ongoing at the Ankara 32nd Heavy Penal Court at the Sincan Prison Campus. To follow the hearing, CHP's 7th General President Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, DEVA Party Spokesperson İdris Şahin, CHP Deputy Chair Gül Çiftçi, CHP MPs Deniz Demir and Mahir Polat, İYİ Party MP Selçuk Türkoğlu, Victory Party General President Ümit Özdağ, and National Path Party General President Remzi Çayır were also present in the courtroom. FIRST TO SPEAK WAS HIS WIFE AYŞE ATEŞThe court rejected the requests for an extension of the investigation. After the break, Ayşe Ateş was the first to speak at the hearing. Ayşe Ateş said, "The case of my murdered husband is ongoing. The honorable court will make a decision on behalf of the Turkish nation. In other words, we are before the authorized authorities on behalf of our Republic and our nation. The survival of our state, the unity and peace of our nation, and the realization of justice are more important than anything else. For others not to die, for other people not to be guilty, justice must be realized patiently and painfully. My greatest desire is for fair and lawful justice to be provided so that I do not have to say 'what if' again. Nothing in the world is more important than a person's life and reaching their Lord in peace and happiness. Neither wealth, nor position, nor ambition has brought anything to its possessors. I respectfully request and demand that the court make a decision in accordance with its conscience and justice and the law." "MY SON'S KILLERS ARE OUTSIDE, THEY DID THIS FOR MONEY"After Ayşe Ateş, Sinan Ateş's mother, Saniye Ateş, spoke. Ateş said, "I don't even want to see their faces. I leave them to God. I do not forgive Devlet Bahçeli. I do not respect him either. The killers of my son are İzzet Ulvi Yönter, Semih Yalçın, Olcay Kılavuz, and Ahmet Yiğit Yıldırım. They were afraid of my son because he was going to be the general president; my son had no such intention. May their lives be so poisoned that they cannot look their mothers and fathers in the face. May they burn from the places they burned us in the same way. I repeat, my son's killers are outside; they did this for money. Nothing hurts me more than the bullet that hit my son. Let those who paid this money and killed my son say where my son's killers are, and then I will say, 'Okay, you did it for money.' I have not seen a pillow for two years. Everyone here will see where my son's killers are; I do not want to mention it now; I leave it to God." While Saniye Ateş was making her statement, a person who said "Amen" was taken out by the court president's order, and a record was made. THE HEARING WAS ADJOURNEDOnur Altundaş, one of the lawyers of Sinan Ateş's family, also stated, "This trial must conclude in such a way that no one dares to kill someone in the middle of the capital again, and no one dares to escape the shooter. No one should dare to hide the killer." The hearing was adjourned until 14:00.
