Citizens wishing to go abroad have seen their visa applications rejected and the difficulty of making appointments has increased the demand for green passports. A bill was prepared in recent months to allow various professional groups to obtain green passports.
MUKHTARS REQUESTED GREEN PASSPORTS
While granting green passport rights to 19 different professional groups, a request also came from the 'mukhtars', whose closure is on the agenda. Ramazan Özünal, the President of the Turkish Mukhtars Federation, stated during the local election process that they requested mukhtars to also be municipal council members and to be granted green passports.
The Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior expressed concerns that European countries would also impose visas on green passports and were not warm to new requests, while the unfortunate development for mukhtars was announced by Süleyman Soylu, the Chairman of the Interior Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). Süleyman Soylu, the Chairman of the TBMM Interior Commission and AK Party Istanbul Deputy, answered questions from deputies regarding the bill on the Amendment of the Law on Internal Affairs Officers and Some Laws and the Decree Law No. 375, which is currently under discussion in the TBMM. Soylu stated that they made serious improvements regarding the personal rights of mukhtars, equalized their salaries with the minimum wage, and noted that previously social security premiums were not paid, but with the regulation they made, they started to pay social security premiums as well.
"IF WE CROSS THE BORDER, TURKEY MAY FACE PROBLEMS"
Süleyman Soylu made the following evaluations in his statements; "The green passport should be considered more as an opportunity to establish connections with other countries in favor of our country, from its diplomats to exporters, and to traders. Of course, there is a right that has been previously granted to public servants, but our mukhtars currently do not have a necessity or obligation to go abroad continuously or to be abroad regarding their own officials.
There is also another thing, we all know this, the demand for this green passport is clear, in other words, the amount allocated to Turkey is clear, where it will be used is clear; the moment you exceed this limit, Turkey may face a green passport problem, therefore none of us would desire or want this. In addition, of course, our mukhtars have very serious contributions. They will try to continue these contributions in their own neighborhoods."
