CRASHED 27 MINUTES AFTER ENTERING GEORGIAN AIRSPACE
In a statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, it was noted that radar contact was lost approximately 27 minutes after the Turkish Air Force plane entered Georgian airspace, and the plane crashed in the Signagi region, 5 kilometers from the Azerbaijan border. The ministry stated, "An investigation has been initiated under Article 275 of the Georgian Criminal Code regarding violations of air transport safety that led to loss of life."
AKINCI UAV SENT TO GEORGIA
After the accident, extensive search and rescue operations were initiated in the area. The MSB announced that investigations at the crash site were ongoing and that the Akıncı UAV had been sent to Georgia to support the efforts.
CRASH SITE REACHED YESTERDAY
The Georgian search and rescue teams reached the wreckage of the plane yesterday at 17:00. The wreckage was secured for examination by accident investigation teams, and the MSB reported that the accident investigation team had arrived in the area. The MSB announced that the search and rescue and accident investigation team's examinations at the wreckage began at 06:30 in coordination with Georgian authorities.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that personnel from the Georgian army supported the search and rescue efforts, and that Georgian Interior Minister Gela Geladzade was also present at the crash site. As a security measure, the area was kept open only to authorized teams. Journalists were allowed to operate approximately 250 meters away from the wreckage site.
DIVIDED INTO THREE PARTS AT 8,000 METERS ALTITUDE
The plane, which fell after its fuselage was divided into three parts at an altitude of about eight thousand meters, is being investigated for the reason it broke apart in the air.
Many members of the Turkish Armed Forces had gone to Baku and Ganja for Azerbaijan's State Flag Day. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was also in Azerbaijan on November 8 to attend the Victory Day ceremonies. It is reported that the plane carried maintenance personnel for combat aircraft that would perform possible maintenance and repairs as part of the Victory Day celebrations.
LOST ALTITUDE RAPIDLY BEFORE CRASHING
Flightradar24, which shared flight data, reported that the plane flying with the call sign TUAF543 transmitted its last signal at 10:49:20 UTC, and that it experienced "rapid descent" just before crashing. According to the data, the plane took off from Azerbaijan's Ganja Airport (GNJ) at 10:19 UTC. After takeoff, it headed north, passed over the Mingeçevir Dam, then turned northwest and entered Georgian airspace at 10:37. Continuing its ascent, it reached a cruising altitude of 24,000 feet at 10:41. Radar contact was lost about 8 minutes later.
THE PLANE IS 57 YEARS OLD
It was stated that the plane with the code TUAF543 is a Lockheed C-130E Hercules model, tail number 68-1609, and is 57 years old. The plane was produced in 1968 at Lockheed's Marietta facility and was first delivered to the Royal Saudi Air Force, and it joined the inventory of the Turkish Air Force in March 2010. According to Flightradar24, on the day of the accident, the plane flew from Kayseri to Ganja in the morning and landed at 11:04.
Unverified video footage shows the plane spiraling downwards with white smoke in the sky. It is also seen that a large object, believed to be a part of the plane, fell at a separate location.
