While the echoes of MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's statements regarding terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan continue, discussions about the presidential candidacy are still ongoing within the CHP. HE HELD A PRESS CONFERENCE IN ANKARAIt did not go unnoticed that İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu held a comprehensive press conference in Ankara for the first time the other day. İmamoğlu explained this situation by saying, "There is no special context to say İmamoğlu is warming up to Ankara. I first came to Ankara when I was 5 years old. Since that day, I have been a warm person towards Ankara. Above all, when I visit Anıtkabir and pray, I find myself very peaceful on behalf of my homeland." EARLY ELECTION WARNING TO ÖZELDuring this meeting, which made a significant impact within the party, it was noteworthy that CHP leader Özgür Özel was criticized by İmamoğlu for bringing up early election discussions at every opportunity. İmamoğlu warned, "Leave the early election message and focus on the problems," stating that as of today, there is no government in front of them that can win the election, and added, "If we lose, we will only lose as the opposition due to our own mistakes, disagreements, or being unprepared." ERDOĞAN'S CANDIDACY AGAINIn response to a question about President Erdoğan's candidacy, İmamoğlu said, "It is necessary for candidacies to be formed with a legitimate order. In this context, where there is no legal obstacle at this point, just as it is everyone's right, it is also the right of Mr. Erdoğan to be a candidate. I find it more powerful for the pulse of the people to determine this issue rather than it being a matter fueled by political parties and brought up every day. In this context, a ground is being formed, but I cannot know when it will materialize. Instead of a political party saying early elections every day, I find it more valuable for my party to be one that offers solutions to the country's problems every day," he replied. PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDACYIn response to the question, "Will you be a presidential candidate?" İmamoğlu stated, "When the time comes, our nation will decide on the candidates. That is not something that a certain elite will direct. I have a party, and the decision-making mechanisms of my party will operate. The nation will also decide on the president." HE SAID SIMILAR THINGS TO ÖZELShortly before these statements, it was claimed that İmamoğlu met with CHP leader Özgür Özel and shared his concerns about general policies. It is also reported that İmamoğlu emphasized that policies that will give hope and excitement to society should be focused on, just as he did in the meeting.
