The European Union (EU) saw hybrid vehicle sales in the new car market reach a share of 32.8% in September, surpassing gasoline models for the first time. The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) announced the new car registration data for EU countries for September. According to the data, new car sales in EU countries decreased by 6.1% compared to the same month in 2023, totaling 809,163 units. A FIRST IN THE AUTOMOTIVE MARKET!In member countries, 32.8% of new cars sold were hybrids, 29.8% were gasoline, 17.3% were electric, 10.4% were diesel, 6.8% were plug-in hybrids, and 2.9% were vehicles using other fuel types. Thus, in September, the share of hybrids in new car sales surpassed that of gasoline models for the first time. Additionally, the combined share of fully electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid models in total sales reached 56.9%. Electric vehicle sales in September increased by 9.8% compared to the same period last year, reaching 139,702 units. However, electric vehicle sales in the January-September period decreased by 5.8% compared to the same period last year, dropping to 1,047,869 units. DECLINE IN NEW VEHICLE SALESNew car sales in September decreased by 7% in Germany, 11.1% in France, and 10.7% in Italy compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, total sales in the January-September period increased by 0.6% compared to the same period last year, reaching 7,989,776 units. According to manufacturers, Volkswagen Group had the highest new car sales in the EU in September, with 216,577 vehicles sold. Stellantis Group followed Volkswagen Group, selling 120,582 cars, which includes brands like Peugeot, Fiat, Citroen, and Opel. Renault Group ranked third with 88,149 new vehicles sold.
