THERE IS NO TIME LIMIT FOR IDENTITY CARDS

Changes to identity cards and driver's licenses are ongoing. There is no deadline for changing identity cards. The last date for changing driver's licenses has been set as December 31, 2024.

There is only 1.5 months left to replace old driver's licenses with new ones. After obtaining a health report and paying the necessary fees within 1.5 months, an appointment can be made at the Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs, and the new driver's license is quickly sent to the given address. Since a driver's license change will be made, documents are provided for the period without a license, which is valid for 1 month instead of a driver's license. The temporary documents can be destroyed after the new driver's license is delivered.

RENEWED DRIVER'S LICENSES ALSO HAVE A VALIDITY PERIOD

The validity period for renewed driver's licenses is set at 10 years. However, for some classes of driver's licenses, it is determined to be 5 years.

WHAT ARE THE PENALTIES?

Driving without a license incurs a fine of 12,978 TL, driving by someone whose license has been revoked incurs a fine of 12,978 TL, driving by someone whose license has been canceled incurs a fine of 12,978 TL, driving a vehicle outside the license class incurs a fine of 6,440 TL, driving with an expired license incurs a fine of 2,610 TL, and driving with foreign licenses without complying with the time limits and restrictions set by regulations incurs a fine of 2,610 TL.

HOW MUCH ARE THE DRIVER'S LICENSE FEES?

For the replacement of Old Type (Driver's Licenses Obtained Before 2016) Driver's Licenses, the "Foundation Service Fee" is 2 TL to the accounts of the Turkish Police Strengthening Foundation, and the "Value Paper Fee" is 13 TL to the accounts of banks authorized to collect taxes;

For the renewal of New Type (Driver's Licenses Obtained After 2016) Driver's Licenses, the "Foundation Service Fee" is 230 TL to the accounts of the Turkish Police Strengthening Foundation, and the "Value Paper Fee" is 990 TL to the accounts of banks authorized to collect taxes;

For the first-time acquisition of a driver's license or class addition, the "Foundation Service Fee" is 230.00 TL to the accounts of the Turkish Police Strengthening Foundation, and the "Value Paper Fee" is 990.00 TL to the accounts of banks authorized to collect taxes;

HEALTH REPORT IS VALID FOR 2 YEARS

If you have a health report containing findings related to your driver's license within the last 2 years, you can use it for the new driver's license you will obtain. You can access the health report through the e-Government portal via the e-Pulse application.

BEFORE GETTING A HEALTH REPORT, BE CAREFUL

Before obtaining a health report, you need to log into e-Government and fill out and approve the "Personal Health Information Form." Otherwise, you will be kept waiting extra time to fill out this form at the healthcare institution.

YOU ARE NOT OBLIGED TO CARRY THE NEW TYPE DRIVER'S LICENSE WITH YOU

After renewing your driver's license, you can go to the Population Administration again and link your driver's license with your chip ID. Thus, the obligation to carry the driver's license with you is eliminated.
