Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, announcing that the 84-year rainfall record was broken in the flood disaster in which 2 people lost their lives in the city, warned citizens, "Do not go outside unless necessary for 1-2 days."
Istanbul Governor Davut Gül shared with the public the latest situation regarding the flood disaster that affected the entire city and caused great damage. Laying out the scale of the rainfall with figures, Governor Gül announced that 2 people lost their lives and 3 people were injured in the disaster.
"RECORD RAINFALL OF 84 YEARS RECORDED"
Following the floods and inundations that occurred in the city, Governor Davut Gül, who monitored the work on site, stated that Istanbul was facing a historic natural disaster. Drawing attention to meteorological data, Gül said, "As Istanbul, we received the heaviest rainfall in 84 years. Unfortunately, 2 of our citizens lost their lives and 3 of our citizens were injured in the flood disaster."
"UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY..."
Recalling that weather conditions and cleanup efforts are continuing, Governor Gül made a vital call to all Istanbulites. Emphasizing that the danger has not yet completely passed, Gül repeated his warning, saying, "Unless it is necessary, we ask our citizens not to go outside for 1-2 days."
Highlights from Governor Gül's statements;
"Although there is no very major problem reaching us, the safety of our children, the safety of our teachers, and the safety of our parents come before everything. Therefore, our schools will be closed tomorrow as well. Likewise, our students will rest at home tomorrow as well. We, too, will go through our schools from top to bottom on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and by Monday we will have brought them to a state where education and training can be carried out healthily.
Likewise, the administrative leaves we announced for other public officials will continue tomorrow as well. Regarding whether there will be a holiday at our universities, just as today, the universities' own administrations will decide. If they are deciding on a holiday today based on their own needs and situations, they will also close them tomorrow. Our wish is that they be closed.
The reason is this. The rains will continue for about 2-3 more days. The soil has reached a certain saturation. Therefore, even if it is one in 100,000, even if it is one in 1 million, in order to avoid encountering a road collapse, a building collapse, or a similar problem, or to avoid harm if we do encounter one, we recommend that unless it is necessary, people not go outside and rest over the next 1-2 days."
