In Adana, 115 kilograms of silver were stolen from the shop of wholesaler İshak Şengül by cutting the door lock with an oxygen cylinder. While approximately 55 kilograms of the silver were found, Şengül noticed his own chains being offered for exchange at a jeweler and paid 45,000 lira to get them back. Two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident; Şengül's loss of approximately 9 million lira continues.
İshak Şengül (56), a wholesaler whose 115 kilograms of silver were stolen from his shop in Adana, stated that his loss was approximately 9 million lira and said, “If anyone sees these people anywhere or buys any of my products, I want them to hand them over to the police.”
The incident occurred on September 13 in the late night hours on Sefa Özler Street in the Kuruköprü Neighborhood of Seyhan district. Jewelry craftsman Mehmet Ali L. (53), who hid his face with a helmet, went with materials loaded onto his motorcycle to the business building housing the shop of silver wholesaler İshak Şengül, with whom he had previously done business. Mehmet Ali L., who hid inside for a while, waited for the business building to close. Then, cutting the lock of the iron door of Şengül's shop with an oxygen cylinder, Mehmet Ali L. stole a total of 115 kilograms of silver, some of it in ingots, placing it in the suitcase and sack he had brought with him. The moments when the suspect loaded the stolen silver onto his motorcycle and drove away were captured by a security camera. Teams from the Burglary and Pickpocketing Bureau of the Public Order Branch Directorate, who acted upon Şengül's report, detained the suspect in a raid on his home.
55 KILOGRAMS OF THE SILVER FOUND
During a search at the suspect's home, the motorcycle, some of whose parts had been changed and which was determined to have been painted, was seized. In addition, the suitcase in which suspect Mehmet Ali L. carried the silver was found in the wood storage area of his home. Mehmet Ali L., who claimed during questioning at the police station that he did not commit theft and had no connection to the incident, was arrested by the court to which he was brought. In searches conducted by the police at two different addresses, approximately 55 kilograms of the stolen silver was found and returned to its owner.
HE PAID 45 THOUSAND LIRA FOR HIS OWN SILVER
Meanwhile, it was learned that another suspect, Lütfi B. (48), tried to cash in 550 grams of the stolen silver at a jewelry shop on Çakmak Street on September 26. The jeweler called Şengül by phone and summoned him, saying, “A customer who wants to sell silver has come. If you need it, come and buy it.” Şengül went to the shop and, while examining them, realized that the silver chains were the products stolen from him; he paid 45 thousand lira and bought them. Lütfi B., who was detained upon Şengül's report and claimed that he had bought the products for 30 thousand lira from two people he did not know, was also arrested.
İshak Şengül said, “We had some small-scale business dealings with the suspect before. I used to hear that he owed money in the market, but I never thought he would do such a thing. He learned that the security cameras in my shop were not working at that time and took advantage of it. He entered the building in the evening and hid. After everyone left, he worked until 01:30 and stole my silver. My 115 kilograms of silver, worth approximately 15 million lira, were stolen. About 55 kilograms of it was found; I thank the Adana police for their efforts.”
Şengül, stating that he had bought some of his stolen silver, said, “Two weeks after the incident, while I was getting ready to go home, a jeweler friend of mine called and summoned me, saying he had a customer who wanted to cash in silver. When I went to the jeweler, I realized that they were my stolen silver chains. Each chain weighs 2 grams and they are not products for investment. When I asked the customer where he had bought them, he said he had bought them from Adıyaman for investment. After chatting a little, I told him that my workplace had been burglarized and that the products were mine. When he insistently said he had bought them for investment, I paid 45 thousand lira for the product and bought it.”
LOSS OF 9 MILLION LIRA REMAINS
Şengül, who wants his loss to be compensated as soon as possible, said, “The suspect from whom I bought the silver chains at the jeweler was also arrested, but nothing was found at his home. Both arrested suspects deny their crimes and do not say where my products are. 60 kilograms of my products are missing, and I have a loss of approximately 9 million lira. If anyone sees these people anywhere or buys any of my products, I want them to hand them over to the police.”
