The Ministry of Interior appointed trustees to the municipalities of Mardin Metropolitan, Batman, and Halfeti. Following the decision, the rising tension in Batman did not decrease on its third day. PKK sympathizers took to the streets in different parts of the city, turning the area into a battlefield. In videos shared on social media, it was seen that streets and avenues were blocked by PKK sympathizers using garbage containers, and police were attacked with fireworks and stones. 'PROTESTER WHO SAID "GOVERNOR, COME OUT HERE" DETAINEDAfter Batman Mayor Gülistan Sönük was removed from office due to a confirmed prison sentence related to terrorism and ongoing terrorism investigations, supporters of the PKK organized unauthorized protests and attempted to march to the municipality, while a protester who shouted "Governor, come out here" to Governor Ekrem Canalp was detained. A protester who came in front of the barriers set up around the municipality building for security reasons said, "We chose this place ourselves, we worked day and night, our people chose this place. We are the people, you are the colonizers, leave this place. Governor, come out here, you are usurping the will of the people, even Israel is better than you," and tried to topple the barriers. Despite the police's warning to 'disperse', the group attempting to topple the barriers was intervened, and the protester who made statements targeting the governor was also detained during the ensuing scuffle. GENERAL DIRECTORATE OF SECURITY: 140 SUSPECTS DETAINED IN 8 PROVINCESIn a statement from the General Directorate of Security, it was stated, "A total of 140 suspects who threw stones at security forces, physically attacked, and injured 16 of our security personnel and 2 citizens in 8 of our provinces, including Mardin, Batman, Şanlıurfa, Istanbul, Van, Diyarbakır, Adana, and Antalya, have been detained, and legal proceedings have been initiated against them. Additionally, legal actions have been initiated against 75 account users identified as making provocative posts on social media platforms. Our valuable citizens, let’s not fall for provocations. Let’s not commit crimes by harming people, the environment, and property through illegal means. Our state is strong. Those who conspire against our state and nation will receive the consequences they deserve," the statement said.
