A 42-year-old doctor from Greece, who practices dentistry at a private clinic in Edirne, was sentenced to prison for the sexual abuse of a 16-year-old girl. O.M., a Greek dentist working at a private dental clinic in the city center of Edirne, had sexually abused the 16-year-old girl he was treating. Later, the victimized child told her family that she was in a very bad situation and wanted to take her own life. Upon this, the family listened to their daughter to understand what had happened and realized the horrific incident. After the victim's family filed a complaint with the police department, the police teams took action and detained the suspect dentist. After his procedures at the police station, the 42-year-old dentist O.M. was referred to the courthouse and was arrested by the magistrate's court and sent to prison. The dentist O.M., who was held in custody for 53 days, was released with a judicial control decision at the first hearing of the prosecution phase. The family was very upset about the dentist's release at the first hearing due to the abuse suffered by their child. HE RECEIVED A MITIGATION FOR GOOD BEHAVIOR DUE TO HIS ATTITUDE AND ACTIONS IN COURTHowever, on November 7, 2024, during the fourth hearing at the Edirne 10th Criminal Court of First Instance, dentist O.M. was sentenced to 8 months for sending messages to the 16-year-old victim girl, which constituted the crime of sexual harassment. Since this crime was committed by taking advantage of the facilities provided by electronic communication, it was increased to 12 months, and due to the repeated nature of the offenses, the sentence was further increased to 15 months. However, the 15-month prison sentence was considered a good behavior reduction due to the dentist's good conduct in court, and this sentence was reduced to 12 months and 15 days. Additionally, it was decided to postpone the announcement of the verdict for this crime, and a 5-year probation period was given. It was stated that if he commits the same crimes during this 5-year probation period, he would be subject to a 12-month and 15-day sentence. Finally, the dentist, who committed another crime, was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison for sexual harassment, taking into account the patient-doctor relationship. However, a good behavior reduction was made due to his attitude and behavior in court, and it was decided that the sentence would be 2 years and 11 months in prison.
