In Iran, Mohsen Rezaei, the former commander of the Revolutionary Guards Corps, who also served during the 8-year Iran-Iraq War, has been appointed as the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.

In a statement made on the social media account of Iran's leader Mojtaba Khamenei, Rezaei's military experience during the 8-year Iran-Iraq War was highlighted.
The statement announced that Mohammad Bagher Zolkadir, the former Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, has been appointed as Khamenei's political advisor, and Rezaei has been appointed to the position vacated by Zolkadir.
WHO IS MOHSEN REZAEI?
Mohsen Rezaei was born in 1954 in Iran's Khuzestan province. He served as the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for a long period during and after the Iran-Iraq War years (1981-1997). Rezaei served as the Secretary of the Expediency Discernment Council (EDC) between 1997 and 2021.
Rezaei, a prominent politician from the conservative wing, ran for president several times but failed to secure enough votes. He also served as Vice President for a period during the tenure of former President Ebrahim Raisi.
