After years of ongoing debates, the request of the Karabulut and Garipoğlu families to "open the grave, let the public conscience be at ease" has been accepted. The Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office instructed the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to open the grave of Cem Garipoğlu. In order to eliminate doubts, on October 3, all bone fragments claimed to belong to Garipoğlu were taken to be examined by placing them in a coffin at the Karacaahmet Cemetery. In the examinations conducted at the Forensic Medicine Institution, DNA samples taken from the bones were compared with blood and oral swab samples taken from father Mehmet Nida and mother Tülay Makbule. The test results confirmed that the person in the grave had an identical DNA profile to that of the mother and father. Additionally, it was determined that the blood found in the bag taken from the grave did not belong to a human. While all objections from the Karabulut Family were rejected, the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office put an end to the debates. Following the confirmation that the person in the grave was Cem Garipoğlu, a decision of non-prosecution was made regarding the investigation.
