On the second day of the Büyükçekmece Municipality case, the İstanbul 27th Heavy Criminal Court issued an interim decision, ordering the release of detained businessman Atahan Bacınoğlu under house arrest. The detention status of Hasan Akgün, who was suspended from his mayoral duties after his arrest, Deputy Mayor Ömer Kazancı, and businessmen Adem Çukur, Mehmet Kılıç, and Osman Yeşilgül will continue.
The trial of 31 defendants, including Hasan Akgün, who was removed from his post as Mayor after being arrested in the investigation into the Büyükçekmece Municipality, began yesterday at the Istanbul 27th Heavy Penal Court. The first hearing, which lasted two days, concluded today.
PROSECUTOR PRESENTED HIS OPINION
In today's final hearing, the non-detained defendants were heard. After the defenses were completed, the public prosecutor presented his opinion on the detention. The prosecutor requested the continued detention of Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, Deputy Mayor Ömer Kazancı, and businessmen Adem Çukur, Atahan Bacınoğlu, Mehmet Kılıç, and Osman Yeşilgül. Additionally, the continuation of judicial control measures for defendants under such supervision was also requested.
Afterwards, the defense statements of the defendants' lawyers were heard. As of 20:24, the lawyers' defenses concluded. The court was adjourned for 1 hour.
HOUSE ARREST AND RELEASE DECISION FOR 1 DEFENDANT
After the break, the panel announced its decision, ordering the release of detained defendant businessman Atahan Bacınoğlu under house arrest.
DETENTION OF AKGÜN AND HIS DEPUTY KAZANCI TO CONTINUE
The court ruled that the detention of Hasan Akgün, Deputy Mayor Ömer Kazancı, and businessmen Adem Çukur, Mehmet Kılıç, and Osman Yeşilgül would continue. The judicial control measure for defendant Güngör Gül, who was under house arrest, was converted into a travel ban abroad.
The next hearing of the case will be held on September 2.
