The investigation into the gang that unlawfully profited by transferring babies to affiliated hospitals in Istanbul, resulting in the deaths of 12 babies and injuries to 3 others, has been completed. In the prepared report, the imprisonment of 2 doctors, who are in leadership positions within the organization, has been requested for up to 273 years.

The investigation conducted by Y.E., one of the prosecutors of the Organized Crimes and Terrorism Crimes Investigation Office of the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, has been completed despite being threatened with death by the suspect's lawyer A.A.

LISTENING AND TECHNICAL MONITORING WERE CONDUCTED

In the 725-page report prepared by the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 10 babies were listed as 'victims' due to their deaths. In the report, 5 individuals were listed as complainants, while 47 individuals were listed as suspects. The report stated that listening and technical monitoring were conducted regarding the allegations that doctors F.S. and I.G. used the neonatal intensive care units of private hospitals to gain financial benefits outside of treatment. It was noted in the report prepared by the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office that the suspect doctors F.S. and I.G. acted contrary to the Private Hospitals Regulation. The report indicated that the suspects invoiced the Social Security Institution (SGK) for medications that they did not use, thus obtaining unjust profits, and that there were money movements among the organization members through internet banking.

THE BABIES WERE KEPT IN THE HOSPITAL FOR A LONG TIME

The report stated that the suspect F.S. operated the neonatal intensive care units of numerous private hospitals in Istanbul and placed health workers who acted in coordination with him in these units. It was mentioned that F.S. and I.G. transferred baby patients who were born in state or private hospitals and whose treatment was deemed appropriate to be carried out in other hospitals due to the intensity of treatment to the hospitals they had agreements with through other suspects. It was revealed that the suspects ensured that the babies stayed in the hospital for a long time and caused public institutions to incur losses by receiving high payments from SGK. The report also stated that the suspects caused the deaths of babies who could not be treated with appropriate treatment methods, and that ambulance driver G.M.Ö., and those responsible for the transfer, R.K, F.A, and S.Y, informed the organization leader F.S. or I.G. about the baby patients who needed to be transferred.

THE ORGANIZATION LEADER REQUESTED UP TO 273 YEARS OF IMPRISONMENT FOR 2 DOCTORS

In the prepared report, it was stated that the suspects F.S. and I.G., who were indicated as the organization leaders, were requested to be sentenced to imprisonment for 180 to 273 years for 10 counts of 'manslaughter by negligence', 'fraud to the detriment of public institutions and organizations', 'establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime', and 11 counts of 'forgery in official documents'. For the other suspects, varying prison sentences were requested.

Additionally, it was requested that the hospitals and companies mentioned in the report be closed and their assets confiscated. The report was sent to the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the preparation of an indictment.
