The 33rd edition of the Olympic Games, the world's largest sports event, will start today. Australian field hockey player Matt Dawson made an incredible move by cutting off a part of his ring finger to be able to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

RECOVERY WILL TAKE MONTHS

Two weeks ago, Matt Dawson broke his right ring finger during a team training session in Perth. Dawson said he fainted when he saw his finger in the locker room and immediately sought the help of a plastic surgeon, thinking that his Olympic dreams were over. The surgeon told the athlete that even with surgery to repair his finger, he might not fully regain its function.
