A soldier was injured as Indian troops came under fire from militants along the Myanmar border in India's restive northeast on Tuesday.
Militants fired on personnel of the Assam Rifles, a paramilitary unit of the Indian army, from "across the India-Myanmar" border, the Indian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The attack took place in Tirap Changlang, an area in the northeastern Arunachal Pradesh province, as "Assam Rifles troops were undertaking enhanced patrolling activities."
A junior commissioned officer suffered bullet wounds to his hand, the ministry said, adding that troops will continue "enhanced surveillance" in the area.
Several armed groups in India's tribal-dominated northeastern regions, which border Myanmar, China and Bangladesh, are fighting government forces for objectives ranging from greater autonomy to complete independence. -
