The inflation figures eagerly awaited by the markets have been announced. Inflation increased by 1.84 percent in August and reached 31.51 percent on an annual basis.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures for August.
Accordingly, the change in CPI was 1.84 percent compared to the previous month in August 2026, 22.07 percent compared to December 2025, 31.51 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, and 31.79 percent according to the twelve-month averages.
FOOD PRICES INCREASED BY 33.79 PERCENT ANNUALLY
Looking at the annual changes in the three main expenditure groups with the highest weight, increases of 33.79 percent in food and non-alcoholic beverages, 35.08 percent in transportation, and 39.77 percent in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels were observed.
The contributions of these groups to annual inflation were 8.12 points in food and non-alcoholic beverages, 5.94 points in transportation, and 5.01 points in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.
