The Deputy Chairman of the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK), Mustafa Aydın, caused a scandal by sending wedding invitations to the managers of banks and private financial institutions under the agency's supervision. At the wedding held in Şişli, Istanbul, the general managers of the banks under supervision, as well as the owners and managers of private financial institutions, formed a queue to give gifts. MINISTER ŞİMŞEK ORDERS AN INVESTIGATIONFollowing the images that caused a significant public outcry, the Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mehmet Şimşek, took action and ordered an investigation into the matter. It was reported that Minister Şimşek, who was disturbed by the images, conveyed the message that "Whatever is necessary will be done" regarding the issue. SCANDAL WEDDING SHAKING THE FINANCIAL WORLDBDDK invited banks and financial institutions under its supervision to the wedding of Mustafa Aydın and Nilüfer Özmen, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Şişli, Istanbul. Companies feeling obliged to attend the wedding were indecisive about the gifts, while some banks set budgets ranging from 150,000 TL to 350,000 TL. Among the attendees were BDDK President Şahap Kavcıoğlu, former Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, and MHP deputies. ENDLESS GIFT WEDDINGDuring the hours-long gift ceremony, bank general managers and executives of financial companies congratulated the bride and groom and placed their gifts in boxes. It was noticed that the gift boxes were filled and emptied multiple times during the wedding. Some bank executives were alleged to have worn gifts worth 10,000 dollars.
