"Intervention of a trustee against CHP members in Esenyurt Municipality"

CHP members of parliament are starting a vigil in front of the municipality building today due to the arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and the appointment of a trustee in his place. Before the vigil, CHP members who wanted to enter the Esenyurt Municipal Council faced obstacles. Members were not allowed inside by the decision of Can Aksoy, who was appointed as the trustee. The sign of the CHP Group Meeting Room in the municipality was also taken down.

"THIS IS FASCISM"

Council member Erdinç Aktaş stated, "This is fascism. Our CHP Group Room in Esenyurt Municipality is being locked by the trustee's order. You are usurping the will of the people, and you will be crushed under it." İBB Council CHP Group Deputy Chair Ülkü Sakalar reacted to the decision by saying, "It seems that the Esenyurt trustee thinks he is the Governor of a State of Emergency. Which law states that council members cannot enter the municipality?"

The taken down sign of the CHP Group Meeting Room was hung back up after a while with slogans such as "It belongs to the people of Esenyurt, it will stay with the people," "We will win by resisting," and "The trustee will go, President Ahmet will come."

CHP PROVINCIAL CHAIRMAN ÖZGÜR ÇELİK WAS ALSO NOT ALLOWED INSIDE

A scuffle also occurred in front of the municipality building. CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik, who wanted to enter the municipality building, also faced police obstruction. Çelik said, "Not allowing an elected Municipal Council member, a Group Deputy Chair, inside is a crime. No notification has been made, no announcement has been made. Right now, he is a Municipal Council member elected by the will of the citizens, the voters. Therefore, what you are doing right now is committing a crime. Open the door of the municipality, brother, the citizens will also enter. The people of Esenyurt will enter and receive services," he stated.

Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was detained during a raid on his home on Wednesday, October 30, and was arrested at midnight. Can Aksoy, who was appointed as the trustee, was brought from the Beyoğlu District Governorship to the Istanbul Deputy Governorship.
