The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated an ex officio investigation against Fatih Altaylı and İsmail Saymaz. It was reported that the investigation was launched due to Altaylı's article titled "Those who are not afraid of the rubble are not afraid of prison" and Saymaz's statements made on a television channel, claiming that "President Erdoğan showed some footage related to MHP deputies to Bahçeli." In a statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated, "In the examination of some media outlets; on 21/11/2024, in the article titled 'Those who are not afraid of the rubble are not afraid of prison' written by Fatih Altaylı, and in the program named 'Rota' aired on Halk TV on the same date, the statements made by İsmail Saymaz, which were confirmed to be false by the statement made by the Communication Presidency's Disinformation Combat Center, regarding 'President Erdoğan showed some footage related to MHP deputies to Bahçeli' have led to an ex officio investigation by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's Press Crimes Bureau for the crime of 'publicly disseminating misleading information' under Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code No. 5237." Fatih Altaylı, in a statement to Halktv regarding the investigation, said, "The ink of the article has not even dried."
