Permission for an investigation was granted regarding Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, based on allegations that some vehicles belonging to the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality were used during an election rally held in Karabük in 2023.
A new investigation has been launched against Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş.
The Ministry of Interior granted permission for an investigation against Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş based on allegations that some vehicles belonging to the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality were used within the scope of an election rally held in Karabük in 2023.
It was learned that the Ministry initially launched an investigation against former Head of Public Works Department Aziz Murat Seyrek. However, considering that these vehicles could not be used for election campaigning without the mayor's knowledge, permission for a new investigation against Yavaş was granted.
Yavaş has the right to appeal to the 1st Chamber of the Council of State within 10 days.
AN INVESTIGATION HAD ALSO BEEN LAUNCHED FOR CONCERT EXPENSES
The investigation regarding concert expenses is being conducted separately from this investigation.
STATEMENT FROM ABB
While the Ministry of Interior granted permission for an investigation against Yavaş based on allegations that some vehicles belonging to the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality were used within the scope of an election rally held in Karabük in 2023, a statement came from ABB regarding the issue.
"MANSUR YAVAŞ DID NOT EVEN RECEIVE HIS MAYORAL SALARY DURING THE ELECTION PERIOD"
The statement included the following expressions:
"Although the decision text states that 'no information or evidence was found indicating that he gave the relevant order or instruction...', an attempt has been made to attribute responsibility based solely on the assumption that 'it cannot be expected to have occurred without his knowledge', without presenting any concrete instruction, assignment, or direct action.
Sensitivity has been shown not to use public resources even during election periods; Mansur Yavaş did not even receive his mayoral salary during the campaign process.
Indeed, when this issue was brought up on a television program, to avoid any doubt, he personally referred the matter for inspection, and no evidence was found in the examinations conducted.
"NOTHING MORE THAN AN ATTEMPT TO DISCREDIT"
Furthermore, it has been clearly stated in the file for which the Ministry of Interior opened an investigation that no written or verbal instruction was given for the use of municipal vehicles, personnel, or any resources in election activities.
Despite all these clear facts, granting investigation permission without any concrete evidence is a straining of the law. This approach is nothing more than an attempt to intimidate and discredit.
While not a single investigation has been opened regarding the former administration, which used all the municipality's facilities during election periods, forcing employees through roll calls and taking buses to travel from rally to rally during elections, we leave this investigation opened against Mansur Yavaş to the discretion of the public.
The purpose of this investigation permission is merely to fabricate an accusation against Mansur Yavaş and create a perception in the public eye.
This decision will be appealed, and the public will be informed through a separate press conference regarding this and similar attitudes of the Ministry of Interior in similar situations."
