A member of the Iranian Parliament's Security Commission, Ahmad Behshayesh Ardestani, spoke about the possibility of negotiations between Iran and the US.
HE POINTED TO TURKEY AND QATAR
Stating that under current conditions negotiations are the only way and that all wars must end through negotiation, Ardestani said, “We must not put an end to either the state of war or the state of negotiations,” and stated that direct negotiations between Iran and the US in Qatar or Turkey are within the realm of possibility.
Ardestani also said regarding the issue of withdrawing from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which is sometimes debated in Iranian public opinion, “This issue creates the impression in the international arena that Iran is moving toward producing nuclear weapons.”
ARAGHCHI: THE TALKS ARE CONTINUING BUT WE HAVE NOT YET REACHED A DEFINITIVE CONCLUSION
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that talks with Qatari mediators regarding a two-day plan concerning the Strait of Hormuz are continuing, and said they have not yet reached a definitive conclusion.
In a statement after the meeting of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Araghchi said, “The talks are continuing, but we have not yet reached a definitive conclusion. Because reaching a conclusion depends on the answers the other side will give to our questions.”
Stating that the visit was carried out at the level of Deputy Foreign Minister, Araghchi said the purpose of the talks was to continue consultations with the Qatari mediators who have been holding contacts in Tehran in recent weeks.
Emphasizing that no negotiations with the US side were planned as part of the visit, Araghchi noted that discussions regarding the two-day plan are continuing with the mediators.
Expressing that they are continuing their efforts regarding diplomacy, Araghchi said they hope the other side will also act rationally and prefer diplomacy to other paths.
“WE ARE PREPARED FOR ALL SCENARIOS”
Stating that Iran is prepared for all scenarios, Araghchi said that the instructions given by the country's leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, to senior military commanders clearly demonstrate Iran's will.
Emphasizing that the duties of the Iranian Armed Forces are clear, Araghchi argued that thanks to the experience gained from the previous two wars, the army is much stronger than before.
Stating that Iran is simultaneously prepared for defense and diplomacy, Araghchi noted that which path the US will choose depends on its own rational approach.
