The highest council responsible for internet security in Iran voted to lift the ban on the popular messaging application WhatsApp, which has been subject to restrictions for more than two years. The official IRNA news agency stated, "The ban on WhatsApp and Google Play was lifted unanimously by the members of the Supreme Cyber Space Council." CONSIDERED AS A FIRST STEPAccording to IRNA, Iran's Minister of Information Technology and Communications, Sattar Hashemi, said, "Today, the first step was taken towards lifting internet restrictions." ACCESS RESTRICTION DECISIONS IN IRANAccess to Instagram, WhatsApp, and Google Play was restricted in Iran in 2022. Access to the messaging application Telegram was also blocked in 2018 on 'national security grounds.'
