Iraq has closed its border with Syria.

The Deputy Commander of the Joint Operations Command in Iraq, Major General Kays al-Muhammedawi, announced that the Iraq-Syria border has been completely closed following the conflicts in Syria. Iraq stated that it is fully equipped and ready to ensure security. Defense Minister Sabit Muhammed al-Abbasi held a security meeting in light of the developments in Syria and inspected the measures taken along the border line. It was reported that reinforcement troops have been deployed to the Sinjar district to ensure security along the Syrian border.

After the clashes between the opposition and the regime army in Syria, Iraq closed its border with Syria.

IRAQ CLOSES THE SYRIA BORDER

While clashes continue between the armed group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which opposes the Bashar al-Assad regime, and regime forces in Syria, Iraq is increasing its border security. Major General Kays al-Muhammedawi, Deputy Commander of Iraq's Joint Operations, stated that the Iraq-Syria border is completely closed. Muhammedawi noted that the Iraqi security forces are fully equipped and ready to ensure the country's security.

SECURITY MEETING FROM THE DEFENSE MINISTER

Iraqi Defense Minister Sabit Muhammed al-Abbasi held a meeting with the Western Nineveh Operations Command in Sinjar following the developments in Syria. According to a statement from the ministry, al-Abbasi addressed the effects of the security developments in Syria on Iraq and the security of the Iraq-Syria border during the meeting. After the meeting, Minister al-Abbasi inspected the measures taken along the border line and received information about security measures and the preparations of Iraqi forces.

Meanwhile, local Iraqi sources reported that reinforcement troops were dispatched to the Sinjar district, which is connected to the city of Mosul, to ensure security at the Syria border.
