As rumors of a cabinet reshuffle circulate in Ankara, it is being discussed that Afyonkarahisar Governor Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı will become the Minister of Family and Social Policies. Yiğitbaşı, who is Turkey's first governor to wear a headscarf, previously served as the Deputy Minister of Family.
As claims of a possible cabinet reshuffle are once again gaining momentum in Ankara's corridors, a notable name has started to emerge. It is being discussed that Afyonkarahisar Governor Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı will be appointed as the Minister of Family and Social Policies.
TURKEY'S FIRST HEADSCARVED GOVERNOR
Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı made history as Turkey's first headscarf-wearing governor when she was appointed as the Governor of Afyonkarahisar on May 12, 2022, by a Presidential Decree. Before her appointment as governor, Yiğitbaşı served as the Deputy Minister of Family and Social Services and is also known for her academic background and work in the field of communication.
A DIALOGUE WITH PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN ROOTED IN THE PAST
The dialogue between Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan from a television program she participated in years ago has also come back to the agenda today. Yiğitbaşı emphasized that she was able to hold a public office today thanks to Erdoğan's libertarian policies, recounting the times when she had to hide her headscarf identity during that program.
Yiğitbaşı stated in the program: "If an individual feels alone in the spiral of silence, and thinks they cannot receive much support from their views and surroundings, they feel the need to hide themselves. Thanks to your policies and liberating steps, I was able to conceal the fact that I was a graduate of an imam hatip school and had to hide my headscarf identity during my education, no matter how uncomfortable it made me feel... But now I am serving as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Communication at Marmara University with my headscarf. Thank you very much for facilitating this."
HER NAME IS ON THE AGENDA FOR THE NEW CABINET
Following her governorship, claims are frequently voiced in the corridors that President Erdoğan will assign Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı a ministerial role in the new term. She is particularly suggested to be one of the strong candidates for the Ministry of Family and Social Policies. While no official statement has been made yet, it will become clear in the coming days whether Yiğitbaşı's name will make it to the cabinet list.
