The DEM Party delegation will hold the third meeting with the terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan today. Large screens are being set up in Diyarbakır and Van for the statement that the delegation will make at 5:00 PM.
The call of MHP General Chairman Devlet Bahçeli for a "Terror-Free Turkey" has led to the approval from the Ministry of Justice for the DEM Party's third visit to İmralı, which began with meetings with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. The DEM delegation's visit will take place today.
EYES ON THE STATEMENT AT 17:00
Initially, it was stated that the announcement would be made on Friday after the visit. However, the date of the announcement has changed. It has been learned that the DEM Party delegation will make a statement in Istanbul at 17:00 today after returning from İmralı. The announcement is expected to include Öcalan's call.
AHMET TÜRK IS ALSO IN THE DELEGATION
The delegation includes Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Van MP Pervin Buldan, DEM Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan, experienced politician Ahmet Türk, Istanbul MP Cengiz Çiçek, and lawyer Faik Özgür Erol from the Asrın Law Office.
GIANT SCREENS ARE BEING SET UP IN VAN AND DIYARBAKIR
DEM Party's provincial organizations in Diyarbakır and Van called on the public to gather in the squares through their social media accounts. The Van provincial organization announced, "We are responding to the call of the century en masse in Van," inviting the people of Van to the City Square. The Diyarbakır organization announced that the statement would be broadcast live on giant screens to be set up in Şeyh Said Square in the Sur district.
DEMAND FOR A VIDEO CALL FROM DEM PARTY
DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan stated at a press conference held at the party's headquarters regarding the İmralı process, "Although some issues regarding how the expected historical announcement will be made after the upcoming meeting have not been clarified, we have previously expressed our hope that the relevant announcement will be made in a video format. We have repeatedly stated that it would be better for it to be visual, and that the ongoing isolation should also be lifted. We have expressed that the societal demand is in this direction. In other words, we can say that the impact of a visible and audible announcement would be stronger," she said.
THE PROCESS STARTED WITH BAHÇELİ'S CALL
With the call of MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, the DEM Party held a meeting with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı Prison on December 28, 2024. The party stated that the meeting took place in a sincere atmosphere and that the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) is the most suitable ground for solving the problem within the framework of democratic politics.
Following this meeting, contacts that began with TBMM President Numan Kurtulmuş on January 3 were continued with the leaders and representatives of MHP, the Future Party, the AK Party, the Felicity Party, the CHP, the DEVA Party, and the New Welfare Party. After these meetings, the DEM Party delegation met with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı on December 28, 2024. The delegation expressed that the meetings were promising. The second meeting between the İmralı Delegation and PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan took place on January 22.
