Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made striking statements during her weekly press conference held in the capital Moscow, claiming that traces of Ukraine can be seen in the recent events in Syria.
In response to a question from a journalist asking, "How does Russia evaluate Israel's continued attacks despite the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon made last week?" Zakharova stated that the situation is changing moment by moment and that it is not appropriate to assess the implementation process of the agreement at this stage. Zakharova expressed hope that the agreement would be implemented.
"UKRAINIAN INTELLIGENCE IS IN INTERACTION WITH OPPOSITION FORCES"
Evaluating the recent events in Syria, Zakharova claimed that the attacks of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in Aleppo and Idlib are organized with the support of external forces, and she expressed that they strongly condemn these attacks. Zakharova stated that among the militants of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, there are foreign fighters, including those from the former Soviet Union region, and said, "Traces of Ukraine can also be seen here. According to incoming information, Ukrainian intelligence is in interaction with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham militants. There is a matter of drone delivery and experience transfer here. Apparently, this will not be the first region where the Kiev administration will use its criminal experience."
"RUSSIA, IRAN, AND TURKEY'S FOREIGN MINISTERS ARE IN CLOSE CONTACT"
Noting that the current situation could lead to a new wave of migration, Zakharova stated, "We are in solidarity with the Syrian administration and people. We confirm that we remain committed to Syria's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. We support the actions of the Syrian administration to counter terrorists and restore constitutional order." Spokesperson Zakharova mentioned that they are in contact with Iran and Turkey, the guarantor countries of the Astana Format regarding the Syrian administration and the resolution of the Syrian issue, and added:
"We are actively working with international guarantor partners, especially utilizing the potential of the Astana Format, to stabilize the situation in Syria. The foreign ministers of the Astana Format trio, Russia, Iran, and Turkey, are in close contact. We hope that all states that have an impact on the situation on the ground in Syria will use this situation to ensure security and stability in the country."
"WE HOPE THAT DEVELOPMENTS IN SOUTH KOREA WILL NOT REFLECT ON THE SITUATION ON THE PENINSULA"
Referring to the events that took place in South Korea yesterday, Zakharova emphasized that the situation in that country is concerning, stating, "We hope that developments in South Korea will not reflect on the socio-political situation on the Korean Peninsula. The situation on the peninsula is already bad due to the provocative actions of the US and its allies."
