The claim made on a television program that Syrian refugees in Turkey are exempt from taxes and do not pay VAT/Property tax has caused a public outcry. The Presidency of Communication, denying the allegations reported in the press, stated that Syrian refugees under temporary protection in Turkey do not have any tax exemptions or privileges. Furthermore, necessary tax audits are regularly conducted by relevant departments.

CHP Kayseri MP Aşkın Genç's remarks about Syrians on a television program sparked a major controversy.

CHP member Genç's claims that Syrians have tax exemption and do not pay VAT and property tax caused a stir on social media.

DISCLAIMER FROM THE COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTORATE

A statement issued by the Disinformation Combat Center of the Communications Directorate, which denied the news published on some news websites, stated that the claim that "Syrians have tax exemption. They do not pay VAT/Property Tax" made on a television program is not true.

Syrian refugees under temporary protection in Turkey do not have any exemptions or privileges regarding taxes.

"DO NOT BELIEVE UNFOUNDED CLAIMS"
