Isesco Slams Houthis For Using Yemen Children İn Combat

19.04.2015 23:33

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) on Sunday criticized Yemen's Shiite Houthi group, accusing it of forcing children in areas under its control in Yemen to engage in military activities.

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) on Sunday criticized Yemen's Shiite Houthi group, accusing it of forcing children in areas under its control in Yemen to engage in military activities.

It described in a statement the Houthi group as a "terrorist sectarian militia" that forced schoolchildren in Yemeni cities under its control to participate in combat.

"This is a blatant violation of international agreements on the rights of children," ISESCO said.

It called on the international community to denounce Houthi violations against the children.

The Anadolu Agency could not immediately obtain comments from the Houthi group on the statement of the Morocco-based organization.

Late last month, Saudi Arabia and several other Arab states began an air campaign against Houthi positions across Yemen.

Riyadh says the strikes come in response to appeals by embattled President ABD Rabbuh Mansour Hadi for help against the Shiite militants.

Yemen has been in turmoil since the Houthis overran capital Sanaa in September and have since advanced on other provinces.
