"A FEMALE TERRORIST THREATENED FROM KANDIL"
Ümraniye Mayor İsmet Yıldırım, during a program where he met with citizens, made noteworthy statements about the market place arrangement that has long been a crisis in the district. Stating that he became a target of the terrorist organization due to his determination to relocate and modernize the market place, Yıldırım said, "Unfortunately, they also dampened my enthusiasm regarding the market. They even threatened from Kandil about this issue. And a female terrorist... I said, 'Come.' 'I am here, I recite a Fatiha, 11 Ikhlas, Ayat al-Kursi every day. I go out, that is my precaution,' I said. They threatened, but I stood firm."
"THE PUBLIC DID NOT STAND BEHIND ME, WE WERE DEFEATED BY MARKET VENDORS"
Emphasizing that he did not step back against the organization's threats, Mayor Yıldırım complained that the district residents who wanted the market to be relocated did not show sufficient support. Stating that the project remained incomplete due to the lack of a strong public voice, Yıldırım said, "Unfortunately, the public did not stand behind me. We were defeated by the market vendors. We were defeated by the Digor people. They threatened, but unfortunately, the public did not come out and say, 'I want this, you are saying these things nicely.' 5,000 people did not come out and say, 'This market must be removed from here. We will not shop from the covered market vendors of this market.' Is there such a public?"
