Israeli army forces in the occupied West Bank on Friday detained a Palestinian man while dispersing weekly rallies staged to protest the Israeli occupation, Palestinian activists have said.

The young man was taken to an unknown location following his arrest by Israeli forces in western Ramallah's Bil'in, according to a statement by the Palestinian Popular Resistance Committees in the West Bank.

Israeli officials could not be reached for comment.

The committees said that dozens of Palestinian protesters had suffered teargas inhalation when Israeli forces dispersed anti-occupation rallies across the West Bank.

The committees said that Israeli forces had also used rubber pellets and waste water to disperse protesters.

According to the committees, protesters chanted slogans demanding the release of Palestinian prisoners in detention in Israel and decried the recent death of 37-year-old Palestinian Raed al-Jaabari inside an Israeli jail.

Some 7,000 Palestinians are currently languishing in prisons throughout Israel, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Prisoners' Affairs.

The Popular Resistance Committees are led by Palestinian activists who organize weekly events in the West Bank to protest Israel's longstanding occupation of Palestinian land.
