An Israeli border guard was injured on Saturday when a Palestinian man stabbed him in the head and the chest near the Ibrahimi Mosque in Al-Khalil (Hebron) in the southern part of the occupied West Bank.
Israeli police said on Twitter that a "terrorist" attacked a soldier on an Israeli patrol in the area in the head and the chest.
It added that the "terrorist" was wounded when another soldier shot at him.
Police spokesperson Luba Samri described the condition of the Palestinian attacker as "critical."
Israel Radio, meanwhile, described the condition of the soldier as "moderate."
A Palestinian teenager was shot and killed by Israeli police earlier on Saturday near an Israeli checkpoint in East Jerusalem.
Samri claimed that the boy had wanted to attack checkpoint soldiers with a knife.
