According to the latest data, Istanbul Airport has become the busiest airport in Europe in terms of air traffic. While air traffic worldwide decreased during the pandemic, the performance of Istanbul Airport stood out. Additionally, Turkish airspace has also become one of the most efficient airspaces in Europe.

Istanbul Airport has surpassed airports in European capitals such as Amsterdam, Paris, and London in terms of daily flight numbers. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that Istanbul Airport has outperformed airports in European capitals with an average of 1,488 daily flights. Uraloğlu evaluated the European Aviation Overview Report by the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) in his statement.

"ISTANBUL AIRPORT MAINTAINED ITS POSITION AT THE TOP"

According to the report, Uraloğlu used the following expressions indicating that Istanbul Airport stands out globally and in Europe:

"Istanbul Airport has become the busiest airport in Europe with an average of 1,488 daily flights. Our Istanbul Airport has maintained its position at the top by surpassing airports in European capitals such as Amsterdam, Paris, and London. Among the 25 globally significant airports worldwide, Istanbul Airport ranks 7th with an average of 747 daily aircraft departures."

ANTALYA AIRPORT IS ALSO ON THE LIST

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Uraloğlu emphasized that Antalya Airport ranks 10th on the list with an average of 949 daily flights, and Turkey is the 6th country in Europe with the highest traffic, averaging 3,735 daily flights.

TURKISH AIRSPACE IS ALSO THE BEST IN EUROPE

Additionally, Minister Uraloğlu stated that Turkey's success in flights is also reflected in delay times, saying, "While the average delay per flight in EUROCONTROL airspace is 2.27 minutes, this time has decreased to below 0.5 minutes in Turkish airspace, making it one of the most efficient airspaces in Europe." Uraloğlu added that Budapest has the highest delay with an average of 4.4 minutes, while the Karlsruhe region in Germany experiences an average delay of 1.9 minutes due to weather conditions, and Zagreb and Belgrade are among the control centers with the highest delays at 1.8 minutes.
