Netanyahu dismissed Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who is described as his right-hand man. Current Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz has been appointed in Gallant's place.

A written statement from the Prime Minister's Press Office indicated that Gallant had been dismissed. In the statement regarding Gallant's dismissal, Netanyahu's remark, "(With Gallant) Our trust has been shaken. I have tried many times to bridge the gap between us, but it has only widened," drew attention.

Local media reports stated that current Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz has been appointed to the position of Defense Minister in place of Gallant.

Dismissed Defense Minister Gallant stated in a post on his social media account, "The security of the State of Israel has always been the mission of my life and will remain so."

It was known that there was a rift between Netanyahu and Gallant. The Israeli Prime Minister had previously attempted to dismiss Gallant but had backtracked on that decision following protests.
