After the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria, hot developments continue to unfold. Most recently, a striking claim was made following Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan's visit to Damascus. "A MILITARY BASE WILL BE ESTABLISHED IN DAMASCUS"In a discussion program broadcast on TV100, journalist Sinan Burhan claimed that Turkey would establish a military base in Damascus. Burhan, who based his claim on insider information, stated, "There is information being discussed in Ankara. Turkey is planning a military cooperation agreement with the Damascus administration, secondly, an agreement similar to the one in Libya in the Mediterranean, and thirdly, establishing a military base in Damascus, and fourthly, establishing a naval base in Tartus is on the agenda." WHAT HAD HAPPENED?Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made statements after meeting with the new leader of the administration in Syria, Ahmed Esh Shara, saying, "As Turkey, we are proud to be on the right side of history. Better days are ahead of us. In the future, the future of Syria will be determined by the Syrians." Moreover, MIT President Ibrahim Kalın also visited Damascus in recent weeks to hold talks.
