A restaurant located in the Fatih district of Istanbul was the scene of a horrific incident today. A Spanish tourist took his girlfriend hostage with a knife.

HE TOOK HIS GIRLFRIEND HOSTAGE WITH A KNIFE

The incident occurred yesterday around 23:50 in a restaurant in the Küçük Ayasofya neighborhood of Fatih. Upon receiving reports that a man had taken a woman hostage with a knife, special operations police from the Istanbul Police Department were dispatched to the scene. The police teams that arrived at the scene managed to convince the man to release the woman after a while. The Spanish tourist, S.B.Ş. (21), who calmed down, was apprehended. While the captured individual was taken into custody, the woman, E.G.F. (33), who had been taken hostage with a knife, was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

HE EXPERIENCED HALLUCINATIONS BECAUSE HE COULDN'T TAKE HIS MEDICATION

In the police investigation, it was determined that S.B.Ş. and E.G.F. had a mutual child and had come to the country for tourism purposes, and that S.B.Ş. had psychological disorders. It was learned that S.B.Ş. experienced hallucinations because he could not take his medication during the incident and carried out the act. Legal proceedings have been initiated against S.B.Ş. for the crimes of 'deprivation of liberty and threats,' and his processing is ongoing.
