The proposal for a law containing regulations in the field of internal security was accepted in the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). According to the new regulation, drivers using unauthorized flashing lights or rooftop lights will face an administrative fine of 96,000 TL. Additionally, the driving licenses of these drivers will be revoked for 30 days, and their vehicles will be banned from traffic for the same period.
NEW POWERS FOR GUARDS
New powers have been granted to neighborhood and district guards. Guards will only be able to conduct body searches in cases of strong suspicion regarding "possession of a weapon." They will not be able to conduct body searches otherwise. Only the externally visible parts of vehicles can be checked.
Sanctions regarding the possession and trade of unlicensed weapons have also been intensified. According to the law, the minimum prison sentence for those carrying, purchasing, or possessing unlicensed weapons has been increased from 1 year to 2 years, and the maximum sentence has been raised from 3 years to 4 years.
The law stipulates that in the event of the death of police personnel who are members of the Police Maintenance and Assistance Fund, retirement, disability, and death benefits will be provided to their heirs.
