It has been revealed that Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş was in Taiwan to attend a fair at the moment when Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was taken into custody. It has been reported that Yavaş will return to the country upon hearing the news of the detention.

The President of the Union of Turkish Municipalities and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Ekrem İmamoğlu, has been subjected to two investigations regarding allegations of terrorism and corruption within the scope of "Urban Consensus" and has been detained.

IT HAS BEEN REVEALED THAT YAVAŞ WAS IN TAIWAN

Following this bombshell development, one of the names that drew attention was Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş. In a statement on his social media account regarding the issue, it was revealed that Yavaş was in Taiwan at the time İmamoğlu was detained. It was learned that Yavaş, upon receiving the news of İmamoğlu's detention, cut his program short and would return to the country in a hurry.

"ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE"

In a statement on his social media account, Yavaş said, "Everyone who defends the rule of law, democracy, and the will of the nation in this country should know that these attempts against an elected mayor are absolutely unacceptable. Yesterday, diploma cancellation, and today, police gathering in front of our President Ekrem's house early in the morning and detention operations against his team... This picture is not befitting of a rule of law. Even if the reason for the detention is unclear; what does it indicate to rush to detain a mayor who previously went to the courthouse to give a statement?" he expressed.

"OUR PRESIDENT EKREM IS NOT ALONE"

Continuing his words, Yavaş stated, "If you are truly seeking justice, the fundamental principles of law must be adhered to first," and added: "It should be known that no intervention against the will of the nation goes unanswered. The greatest damage from these unlawful methods, pressures, and threats will be to our democracy. But we will not remain silent! Let no one forget: Our President Ekrem is not alone."
