The BRICS Leaders Summit was held in Kazan, Russia, from October 22 to 24. During the summit, which was attended by President Erdoğan, a symbolic "BRICS banknote" was presented to Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is discussed that the banknote could be used in transactions between BRICS countries in the coming years.

THE BANKNOTE WAS NOT WELL RECEIVED

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that a symbolic "BRICS banknote" was presented to Putin during the summit in Kazan, and that Central Bank Governor Nabiullina did not like the money. Peskov explained that it symbolizes the "joint work done within the framework of BRICS."

"A NEW PAYMENT METHOD SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED"

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who could not attend the BRICS Summit in person due to health issues, connected to the summit via video conference on Wednesday, October 23, and stated that "the time has come for BRICS countries to establish a new payment method among themselves." Lula remarked, "This discussion should be approached with seriousness, caution, and technical robustness, but it cannot be delayed any longer."

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also stated at the summit, "The U.S. uses the dollar as a weapon to control other countries. The world knows BRICS as an organization that will weaken the power of the dollar and bring national currencies into play. The fact that BRICS member countries are the largest producers and consumers of energy, food, and other goods, and have significant transportation and transit routes facilitates the use of national currencies."
