Ivory Coast: Abidjan Under Quarantine Over Coronavirus

Ivory Coast has imposed a quarantine on Abidjan, the most densely populated city of the West African country, as of Monday, in the wake of first death from the novel coronavirus.

On Sunday, Health Minister Raymonde Goudou Coffie confirmed that a people infected with COVID-19 died in Abidjan, the country's economic capital.

The cases of deadly contagious disease in the West African country have risen to 165 after some 64 new infections have been reported over the last two days. Four cases have recovered from the disease in the country meanwhile.

The COVID-19 so far has gripped 46 African nations which have reported some 4,760 cases of the virus, 146 fatalities, and 335 recoveries, according to latest figures issued by the African Union Monday.

The novel coronavirus was first detected in Wuhan, China last December. There are currently more than 724,000 cases worldwide and above 34,000 deaths with over 152,000 recoveries, according to U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.
