Oscar-winning producer Jon Landau, 63, has passed away. Landau, who worked closely with director James Cameron on the 'Titanic' and 'Avatar' series, was announced dead by Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman. The cause of death was not specified. His contributions to the film industry left indelible marks and he will be greatly missed." HE WAS THE PRODUCER OF TITANIC AND AVATARLandau's partnership with Cameron brought three Oscar nominations and the Best Picture award for the 1997 film 'Titanic'. They also achieved great box office success with 'Avatar' and its sequel 'Avatar: The Way of Water'. Landau's career began in the 1980s as a production manager and he achieved great success as a producer in Cameron's expensive epic film 'Titanic'. 'Titanic' became the first film to surpass $1 billion worldwide and won 11 Oscars. Accepting the award with Cameron, Landau said, "I can't act, I can't compose music, and I can't do visual effects. I guess that's why I'm a producer." Landau became a top executive at Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment company and 'Avatar' surpassed the box office success of 'Titanic'. 'Avatar' continues to be the highest-grossing film of all time, and its sequel 'Avatar: The Way of Water' is currently in third place. Landau played a significant role in the 'Avatar' series and defended the delays of the sequel 'The Way of Water'. He was appointed vice president at 20th Century Fox at the age of 29 and oversaw major hits such as 'Home Alone', 'Mrs. Doubtfire', and 'True Lies'.
