Jordan Calls For De-Escalation, Reports Flying Objects As Iran Attacks Israel

14.04.2024 12:12

Jordanian foreign minister says ending war on Gaza is ‘the way to stop dangerous escalation in region’

Jordan stressed on Sunday its readiness to confront any threats after it reported flying objects that entered the Kingdom's airspace overnight amid the Iranian attack on Israel.

In a statement, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi called for "exercising restraint and deal responsibly with the increasing tensions that the region is witnessing."

The official stressed that the army and security services "will confront anything that would expose the security and safety of the nation, its citizens, and its airspace and territory to any danger or transgression by any party with all available capabilities."

"Some flying objects that entered our airspace last night (Saturday) were dealt with and confronted to prevent them from endangering the safety of our citizens and residential and populated areas," he said.

Safadi indicated that "shrapnel fell in multiple places without causing any significant damage or any injuries among citizens."

Anadolu's correspondent monitored on Saturday night continuous scenes of flashes showing the interception of flying objects in the sky of northwestern Jordan near the Syrian border, coinciding with the sounds of warplanes heard from time to time.

Some local residents found parts of an intercepted missile, he added.

Safadi also stressed that "stopping the Israeli aggression on Gaza and beginning to implement a comprehensive plan to end the Israeli occupation and achieve a just peace based on the two-state solution is the way to stop the dangerous escalation in the region."

He warned that "the continuation of the aggression is pushing the region towards further escalation."

Safadi stressed that "Jordan will continue its uninterrupted efforts to stop the aggression against Gaza and stop the regional escalation, and work with partners in the international community to launch real and effective action to implement the two-state solution."

Since Oct. 7, the Israeli army has been waging a destructive war on Gaza, leaving near 33,700 dead and over 76,300 wounded, most of them children and women, according to Palestinian authorities.

Iran began an airborne attack Saturday against Israel in retaliation for an April 1 airstrike on its diplomatic facility in the Syrian capital.
