Jordan said on Thursday that its border guards had managed to foil a bid to smuggle a large amount of weapons into it from neighboring Syria.
"The border guards in the northwestern region managed to abort a bid to smuggle a large amount of arms from Syria," the Jordanian army's command said in a statement.
It added that the arms would have been smuggled to a second neighboring country later through Jordan.
Jordan's Public Security Force commander Tawfiq al-Tawalbeh said earlier that his country abort the smuggling of arms into Jordan from neighboring Syria almost on a daily basis.
Al-Tawalbeh said his country had aborted the smuggling of as many as 1300 automatic rifles since the beginning of 2014.
